John McEuen
McCabes Guitar Shop!! With whole group that has been knocking people out on the road
Fellow NGDB founding member Les Thompson, NGDB alumni John Cable, and the impickable Matt Cartsonis

I started there in 1965, soon becoming a banjo teacher. It was fellow McCabes hanger -on Les Thompson who called me in 1966 when he was 16 years old to see if I wanted to join the other guys hanging around the store, starting out as Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I auditioned the group (unknown to them that I was) backing me up playing Dismal Swamp (I wrote with my brother Bill on our Dadf's boat docked in Belmont Shores) at the Topanga Canyon Banjo and Fiddle contest that year. I won. I decided we should continue playing together. We did. We made history.

A couple of years ago I called Les to ask "Well, you wanna oick?" over 150 shows since then and here we are.. Best thing I have done on stage in 20 years or more.

My Dirt Band favorites, lots of music and stories both from that and Will the Circle Be Unbroken (that album, an L.A. record deal, is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Library of C'ongress now), and a lot of new music from the award winning Made in Brooklyn album from last year (honored with the Independent Record Associaton's American Album of the year, on Chesky Records)

This is set you will want to see.. we are all very excited about this show, and ...

I hear I will be presented wih ther Topanga Canyon Banjo and Fiddle Conest Living Legend recogniton.award at the show!!
