Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (relatively) new CD: Speed of Life Title song was written by Gary Scruggs. When we were starting to record I told Gary 'bring your best song and I'll see if I can get Jeff to sing it'. I was confident Gary would have a good one.. he did. When it arrived one morning by way of the writer,  he had that "Gary grin' on as we sat in the car and listened. It sounded perfect and knew it.. so I took it in and said 'Hey, Jeff.. Gary just dropped this off and hoped you would like it". Jeff liked it ... and learned it.. it became the album's title. Bobby Carpenter and I wrote one called Earthquake. Well, being in L.A. that was easy to come up with. Kind of like writing "Daddy Sang Bass" if you were living in Nashville.
