JOHN MCEUEN - SOUND BYTES

"It was great to have my own son Jonathan in the studio playing on a track with Jeff's son Jaime, and Randy (Earl's son) next to me on banjo. Never would've dreamed this was possible."

John's Acoustic Traveller Show on

XM channel 62

First Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m., then the
following Friday at midnight.
          (all times eastern.)

John's highly active performance schedule is usually about an even split between solo concerts and those with America's longest lasting band with original members, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. John shows are always different in that they might be solo or include some hot picker friends (Matt Cartsonis, Craig Eastman, David Amram) or one of his sons (Nathan or Jonathan) joining him for an evening of music and laughs.

John's has most recently received recognition for The Best in the West performer award from the Folk Alliance organization and the 2010 Grammy Best Bluegrass album win for production of Steve Martin - The Crow on rounder Records.

When the 30th year anniversary for the release of Capitol Records classic Will the Circle Be Unbroken album was getting close, John convinced the company to  have him remaster it from the original two track masters, which he had held for over 25 years.

This would include previously unseen photos, and John would write liner notes for the album (for which a certain band member did not allow him to get credit!) John proceeded to be the producer of this reissued masterpiece (which his brother William had produced.)

This signaled the time for McEuen to rejoin his brothers in music, ending the break of the '90's when he left NGDB due to 'artistic differences', an imminent divorce, and to be a single father to raise 6 kids and pursue other projects of his own.  Shortly after this anniversary release, the Library of Congress inducted 'Circle' as "One of America's most important recordings."

Subsequently, the Dirt Band recorded and released Capitol Record's "WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN - VOLUME 3" double CD (IBMA Album of the Year). September 2004 marked the release of "WELCOME TO WOODY CREEK,"  which offered some great new material and was the first 'band' album in years. The "Circle 3" CD includes John's son Jonathan McEuen's cameo debut in "The Lowlands" along with Jaime Hanna (Dirt Band member Jeff Hanna's son)

John wanted the "unitiated" to hear his son on this release singing the haunting song "The Lowlands," which was written by Gary Scruggs. (- go here to hear the clip.)

After years of promising Gary "I will get this song noticed", the boys did it so well Capitol made a music video of the song.

And now, heralded to be the best NGDB album in years, Speed of Life Sugarhill Records (named after the Gary Scruggs song on this album)  is out, making a lasting impression and getting noticed.
